An eNote from Rodney
Dear Trinity Congregation,
I’ll let a text message I received from John Entzi on Monday speak for the All-American Jazz concert last Sunday afternoon. “Happy 4th. A Grand Success yesterday…audience good…band good…singer good…minister happy…charity richer…Love doing this!!! ” Thank you Trinity for making it possible. Cheryl counted 186 so let’s just call it 190 in attendance. The collection was $1,506.05. That will be divided between the Asheville Jazz Council and ABCCM Veterans ministries. And thanks to Sheila Meadows for putting together and serving the lemonade and cookies. That was the perfect touch to the concert’s end.
Camp SEE: Camp Student Enrichment Experience. During the days of Monday through Thursday, July 11-14, our building is going to be used by a group called Camp SEE. This is a week of both fun and learning activities conducted for seeing-impaired youth. In fact, some of their councilors are seeing-impaired. I was a little concerned about all our stairs, and their leader, Jay Hardwig, told me that the stairs give the kids a wonderful opportunity to practice going up and down steps. This old building still has many gifts to give.
Red Wagon Sunday For the month of July, we will collect for Children First/CIS at Emma. They are in the need of: canned tuna/chicken, jelly, cooking oil, dry pinto/black beans, pasta and rice. We will take up this collection on the 3rd Sunday of July at the beginning of worship.
A note about Nolan. Next week Nolan will be attending the Pipe Organ Encounter Advanced Camp conducted by the American Guild of Organists. It is being held at The University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory
of Music. Nolan submitted an audition tape and was one of 19 selected. We are excited that Nolan has this wonderful opportunity. This Sunday our organist will be Bob Kintner. Mr Kinter is an experienced church organist and he is contributing his services for this Sunday as a gift to Trinity and Nolan. Thank you Mr. Kintner.
As of right now my sermon on Sunday will continue the theme of the religious experience in America. The fact that 300 years ago you could walk 5 miles down the road and start pretty much any kind of church was not lost on a population tired of being told what to believe. America has produced a breathtaking array of expressions of Christianity. If all goes according to plan I want to look at that dynamic.
