An eNote from Rodney

Dear Trinity Congregation,

I mentioned last week during the worship service how Trinity has recently helped several students at Hall Fletcher Elementary with lunches and glasses. One of our members remarked that it was such a joy to represent your generosity to the folks at the school. I know how she feels. Yesterday Maxine Schrader and I took the Little Red Wagon paper products over to Trinity Place Shelter for Homeless Youth. One of our members had given me some cash to use and I passed it on to them. It is a joy being generous in your name and Amy Hobson sends her deepest thanks to you.

When we first started “Bless the School” I remember so clearly being told that in the school system it is believed that churches want to help but they don’t have any staying power and won’t be around for long. Our program is now in its eighth or ninth year. We have hung in there with Hall Fletcher and sometimes we give some help to Vance and Asheville Middle. There is always the pressure to do the next new thing. It’s exciting to be the hare and not the tortoise. However, in the tale, the tortoise wins. I think it’s a win for us that we still have this relationship with Hall Fletcher.

So, no Steelers and no Packers. Atlanta and the Pats. (Are there any Falcons fans here?) To celebrate the Super Bowl the youth will be having a fundraiser. After worship next Sunday, February 5, the youth will be serving soup in the fellowship hall. There will be several different soups and crackers and cookies. Admission is by donation and the proceeds will go toward the youth confirmation trip and summer mission trip. A good bowl of soup will hold you nicely until it’s time for wings and commercials and football.

I have spent a good part of this week doing year end reports. They entail attendance numbers and how many men are members vs. how many women and what we spent on lawn maintenance and I finished them yesterday afternoon with 5 days to spare. Thanks to those of you who helped me get some figures together. As soon as I send this off to Cheryl for proofing I will start on my sermon. You can hear it on Sunday and I look forward to seeing you then.

Sincerely,

Rodney
