Dear Trinity Church Family,

If I could bottle weather and put it in a jar it would be the days we have had this week.  North Carolina is at its finest in the fall and the color of the leaves is the least of it.  It’s just wonderful and it’s almost okay to be outside. Wallace Everhart took me for a little walk down Haywood Road yesterday and introduced me to one of the places he likes to stop in and say hello.   We went to The Asheville Bee Charmer.  It’s a little shop filled with all things bees and honey, from baby clothes with a bee on it to bee lip balm to blueberry honey.

Moving Back Upstairs. By now you are becoming aware of the Trinity UMC Open House that is being planned for Sunday morning, October 4th.  We are going to cut a ribbon a celebrate the new elevator along with some of the other improvements we have made to our building.  We want this to be a Sunday to introduce folks to who we are and to welcome them. The Membership Development Committee is asking you to attend worship on Sunday Morning October 4th and also invite friends.  I will preach and the choir will sing and we will celebrate communion.  After worship we will have a hotdog lunch and show folks around the building.  There will be popcorn and a children’s movie in the fellowship hall for the kids.  We will be ourselves and hopefully meet some new friends. Let’s look forward to this being a lovely day.

We are going to do some preparation for October 4th by meeting at the church on Saturday morning, September 26.  There will be some cleaning and some straightening up and maybe a weed or two will be pulled.  A couple of drills will be handy as we will be taking down the stage in the sanctuary.  I will be here by 8 o’clock and things should be in full swing by 9.  But please, come when you can make it.

I have a song going through my head and I am so glad it’s stuck there.  Our three granddaughters have introduced Cheryl and me to the 2010 animated movie “Despicable Me”. It is so much fun. I’m guessing that if you have children you know about this movie.  It’s the story of how three little girls soften the heart of the biggest villain in the world. (Not me!) There are now sequels and the theme song to the second Despicable movie is “Happy” by Pharell Williams. It is a wonderful, infectious song.  You Tube it.

I met someone at Bruegger’s this week who is involved with the city schools and she had very kind words to say about your contributions to the schools.  How wonderful it is for me to receive those compliments about you.  One of the ways we help the schools is with our Little Red Wagon collections. This Sunday we are looking for snacks for the Asheville Middle School. Items like crackers, Goldfish, pretzels and dried fruit snacks will be helpful.  If you have other items for the schools please bring them and thank you.

We will continue our sermon series on Paul this Sunday by looking at his second missionary journey.  The Lord prevents Paul from going further into Asia Minor and instead directs him toward the footsteps of Europe.  From Jerusalem to Corinth, come and hear tales of conflict and love as Paul starts and shapes young Christian congregations.  I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Sincerely,

Rodney
