Habitat for Humanity

Trinity UMC organizes people who would like to volunteer with local home builds managed by Habitat for Humanity. Habitat for Humanity always welcomes support in any form. Please contact our church office if you would like to join us in building community.

In the spring of 2020 Habitat will begin building their largest community to date. Located on Old Haywood Road off Smokey Park Highway in West Asheville, they’ll build 38 homes (single family and townhomes) during Phase 1. When both phases are complete, 98 families will call this community, home.

Pastoral Care Team

Our Pastoral Care/ Visitation Team meets regularly with Rev. Nancy to discuss visits and issues surrounding our home-bound and skilled nursing resident members. If you’d like to join the team, please speak with Rev. Nancy. Our goal is for each team member to make 2 visits per month. If you know of someone who would like a visit, please let Rev. Nancy know. Did you know we have an on-going prayer list? If you would like to add someone or situation or even an unspoken request for prayer, please contact the Church Office.

Hall Fletcher Elementary School Partnership

We have prepared meals for student-teacher-parent evenings, helped prepare a weekend grocery take home program for students and their families and help them when they are in need of notebooks and pencils. Any donations of school supplies or food items are welcomed. Please contact the church office if you would like to participate in this service.

Winter Fuel Fund

The November Warm Morning Pancake Breakfast is offered by the United Methodist Men as a fundraiser to raise money that maintains a fuel fund.  This fuel fund is directed explicitly to help folks during the winter who need assistance with their heating bills. The pancake breakfast is the major source of funding for the breakfast. This effort has been going on for years.

LatinX Support

Trinity UMC is a west Asheville donation site for Beloved’s (a local non-profit organization) ministry for local LatinX families. Please contact our church office if you would like to donate supplies to these families.

Little Red Wagon

On the third Sunday of each month the children of our church pull a little red wagon through the sanctuary. Members of the congregation place canned goods, paper products, diaper wipes, and other specialty items in the wagon and the items go to various community organizations that serve those in need.

The Little Red Wagon rotates between the needs of the following groups of people:

  • Food for Emma Elem/ Children’s First program
  • Trinity Place – downtown shelter for run-away teens
  • Hall Fletcher Elem (often for teacher & student supplies
  • Asheville Middle School – snacks & schools supplies
  • ABCCM – food pantry items
  • Haywood Street Respite – toiletries, reading glasses, socks & underwear

Concert Events

During the Year Trinity host several music concerts. All of these concerts raise money for charitable organizations in the Asheville area. Around the 4th of July, the Asheville Jazz Orchestra performs big band arrangements from the WWII era.

At Christmas, the Asheville Jazz Orchestra performs Stan Kenton’s big band arrangements of Christmas hymns. The Smokey Mountain Brass Band, a traditional British brass band holds a concert in the fall and the a cappella group Pastyme, performs a Christmas concert for us.

These music events have raised money for Habitat for Humanity, Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministry, Meals on Wheels, the Humane Society, The Asheville City School Foundation, Western Carolina Rescue Ministries and Pisgah Legal Services.

Room in the Inn

Trinity partners with Room in the Inn for one week to provide shelter for up to twelve women each night of the week. During this week we open our church to welcome these women as guests. We offer a warm, safe place for women experiencing homelessness who are working hard to move forward into permanent housing. The simple goal is to keep them from risking their safety sleeping on the street. The greater goal is to create caring relationships with these women, one week at a time, while they await housing placement.
