Charge Conference Season is upon us! Our Charge Conference meeting will take place on Sunday, November 5th, at 10 a.m. This will follow the UMMen’s Warm Morning Breakfast Fundraiser, so come enjoy breakfast from 8 – 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. We have asked all adult Sunday School classes to be a part of the Charge Conference on this morning.

        What is a Charge Conference? From our Book of Discipline: Within the pastoral charge the basic unit in the connectional system of The United Methodist Church is the charge conference. The charge conference shall therefore be organized from the church or churches in every pastoral charge as set forth in the Constitution (¶ 43). It shall meet annually for the purposes set forth in ¶ 247 . . . The primary responsibilities of the charge conference in the annual meeting shall be to review and evaluate the total mission and ministry of the church (¶¶ 120-124), receive reports, and adopt objectives and goals recommended by the church council that are in keeping with the objectives of The United Methodist Church.

        Liken it to a “State of the Union” time, where leadership has the opportunity to present what God has done, what God is doing, and where we feel God is calling us. It is nuts and bolts given in detailed reporting (which keeps us accountable to our District and Annual Conference), a celebration and thanksgiving for another year in ministry, and an opportunity to dream with the Holy Spirit about opportunities yet to come.
