Dear Trinity Congregation,

It is going to be cold on Sunday morning when our folks who help with the homeless feeding program show up at Pritchard Park.  Keep them in your prayers that morning and we are thankful to them for representing us in that ministry.

Next Wednesday will be Ash Wednesday which marks the beginning of Lent. Lent is a season of reflection and penitence. We will have a service for the imposition of ashes on Wednesday February 10th at 5:45.  There will be child care.  Lenten coin folders will also be available.  This year our quarters will go to Trinity Place Shelter for Homeless Children and another charity that we are talking to.  I hope to be able to tell you more soon.

There is still time to join a Lenten book reading group.  We are going to read “Resident Aliens, Life in the Christian Colony.”  The authors are Stanley Hauerwas and retired Methodist Bishop Will Willimon.  The book looks at the Christian dynamic of being both a resident of heaven and of this world.  How does being part of one affect our behavior in the other?  We will meet on Tuesday evenings beginning on February 16th at 6:30.

I want to remind you that we now have a lovely votive candle stand in our sanctuary.  If you would like to light a candle as an act of prayer please do so.  

Save the Date:  Sunday May 22, 2016.  On this Sunday afternoon our congregation has the run of Camp Tekoa.  There will be areas for the youth and children to play and we will have a picnic and more information will be coming.  I wanted you to get this date on your calendar.

Super Bowl Sunday Soup: After church on Sunday the youth will be preparing lunch for us.  There will be several different soups and drinks and something sweet at the end.  The lunch is by donation and the proceeds will help fund the summer youth mission trip to The Hinton Rural Life Center near Murphey.

This Sunday is Transfiguration Sunday. This event in the life of Jesus and several of the disciples is the beginning of Jesus turn toward Jerusalem and his last days of ministry.  The account we will read on Sunday is from Luke 9:28-36.
