Happy September, Church Family!
With the Fall calendar starting in earnest this month, we are going to shift our worship time by 10 minutes to 10:55AM. We hope this will allow Pastor Darryl a few more minutes to arrive from the 9:30AM worship at our sister congregation Berry Temple UMC. Sunday School will be back in full swing, gathering at 9:45AM.
As I have mentioned in our September newsletter (let us know if you are not receiving a copy and would like to), a new season is a kind of threshold we cross. As such, it allows us time to reflect and consider what threshold God might be inviting you to consider. Our Christian Education program for all ages is a great way to further that conversation and build trust with your church family, who journeys alongside you.
Sunday opportunities to serve include helping with the Pritchard Park Breakfast (meet at the church by 8:30AM). And remember to pray for all those participating (our guests & volunteers) with Room in the Inn which begins Sunday evening and runs through next Sunday morning.
I’m sure your hearts have been captivated by the stories we read and hear of coming from areas in Texas and Louisiana where Hurricane Harvey has brought much suffering. And many of those stories are ones of incredible, extravagant generosity and kindness extended. United Methodist Churches are encouraging folks to give through the United Methodist Committee on Relief, aka “UMCOR.” There are 2 ways you may respond this Sunday:
Bring the following items this Sunday to help us assemble Hygiene Kits to deliver to our District collection site just down the road at Abernathy UMC this week: http://www.umcor.org/umcor/relief-supplies/relief-supply-kits/hygiene
(gives more detail & assembly instruction)
1 hand towel – 15 x 25 inches to 17 x 27 inches (NO kitchen, cleaning or microfiber towels.)
1 washcloth
1 comb
Comb needs to be sturdy & longer than 6 inches long
No pocket combs or picks please
Rattail combs & combs without handles are acceptable
with a minimum of 6 inches of teeth
1 metal nail file or nail clippers (No emery boards, please)
1 bath-size soap
3 oz. and larger sizes only
No Ivory or Jergens soap due to moisture content
Do not remove from original packaging
1 toothbrush (Adult size only & do not remove from original packaging)
6 adhesive bandages
¾ inch to 1 inch-size
Common household Band-Aids
1 plastic bag – One-gallon size sealable bag only

Important Notes
All items must be new.
Do not wash any of the items as they will be considered used.
Please remove all packaging, unless otherwise specified.
All emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations.
Do not include any personal notes, money, or additional material in the kits. These things must be painstakingly removed and will delay the shipment.
UMCOR is now purchasing toothpaste in bulk to be added to Hygiene Kits before shipping to ensure that the product does not expire before they are sent. Do not put single dollar bills in each kit. Collect all money for toothpaste and shipping, then place it in a separate envelope and send along with the kit donations.
You may also give during our offering this Sunday through Trinity UMC (with a clear memo for UMCOR Hurricane Harvey Relief. You may also give directly to UMCOR at the website, http://www.umcor.org
Thanks be to God for the many means of grace we have to show the love of God! See you Sunday.
Peace ~
Nancy
