A Conversation on Gender and Marriage Equality with Dr. Amy Platinga Pauw

This event will consist of:
- A 30-45 minute talk from Dr. Platinga Pauw
- 10-15 minutes of conversation/ response time with our pastor
- 15 min Q&A with audience
In light of the United Methodist Church’s recent decisions on marriage equality and decades-long conversations about human sexuality, and gender issues, Dr. Pauw will discuss the multiple mainline American Church’s positions on these issues. This conversation will include biblical interpretation, scripture, tradition, reason and experience. Dr. Pauw will directly address the United Methodist Church’s current position on these issues as well as engage in Q & A as our church’s keep discerning a way forward. Our doors are open to all, regardless of one’s tradition, following our Wesleyan heritage of “open hearts & open minds.”
Amy Platinga Pauw, Ph.D. is the Henry P. Mobley Jr. Professor of Doctrinal Theology at the Louisville Seminary. Since joining the faculty at Louisville Seminary in 1990, she has taught a variety of courses including christology, ecclesiology, feminist and womanist ethics, and the theologies of Jonathan Edwards, Karl Barth, and Dietrich Bonhoeffer.
