An Enote from Rodney

Dear Trinity Congregation,

This Sunday will be the third Sunday in Advent and that means Little Red Wagon Sunday.

This Sunday we will be collecting paper and toilet products for the Trinity Place Shelter for Homeless Youth.  We have helped Trinity Place over the years and their director, Amy Hobson has always deeply appreciated your generosity.  Here is what Trinity Place needs: Paper towels, toilet paper, full size shampoo and hair conditioner and liquid hand soap.  Thank you for helping with this collection.

I wanted to remind you and ask you to remind your friends about the Stan Kenton Christmas concert on Friday December 18.  You will remember that this is a big band jazz concert playing Stan Kenton’s arrangements of traditional Christmas hymns and carols.  The concert is free and we take up a collection for our Bless the School fund and the Asheville Jazz Orchestra. Again, the date is Friday December 18 and the time of the concert is 7:00pm.  It is a great night of music.

“Return to Bethlehem”  Every Advent season, Groce United Methodist Church and ABCCM do a dramatic presentation of life in Bethlehem at the time of Jesus’ birth. This is a fundraiser for Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministries.  The dates and times are; Dec. 11, 6-8:30. Dec. 12, 2-8:30pm and Dec. 13, 2-6pm. The event is free and donations are accepted.  Groce is at 954 Tunnel Road.

The Finance Committee has asked me to tell you that they are grateful for your financial support of our congregation.  If you have not had an opportunity to turn in a pledge form it is not too late.

Those forms are in the hallway behind the sanctuary, or we will be glad to mail you one.  You can send your pledge forms into the church office, place them in the collection plate on Sunday morning or you can make a pledge online from our website at www.trinitymethodistasheville.com.  Your giving maintains the vitality of our congregation and makes a difference in people’s lives.

I have been reading about the genealogy of Jesus in  Matthew and will be preaching from it on Sunday morning.  All those names, all those lives, and they lead to the incarnation of God  when he becomes flesh in Jesus, son of Mary.  That is one of the most magisterial ideas in life.

On Sunday evening we will be celebrating with our Christmas program.  The church will provide meat and drinks and you are invited to bring side dishes and desserts.  The youth, Nolan Anthony and the Trinity Strings will put on a show,  I’m looking forward to all of Sunday and seeing you there.

Sincerely,

Rodney
