An eNote from Rodney

Did you see it! A study by some guy in Scandinavia with Oxford and Harvard connections has come to the conclusion that drummers are smarter than everyone else. Drummers are also happier and more at one with the earth. It has something to do with keeping polyrhythms and time keeping and…just Google it.

I want to thank Ryan Snider for conducting the service last Sunday. Everyone has told me that he did a wonderful job. We will keep Ryan and Danielle in our prayers as Ryan prepares to take a church appointment. I also want to thank all the staff members for their leadership and the members who made last Sunday’s service run smoothly.

The Wednesday morning book club has just finished reading “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee. You would think that having grown up in south central Alabama I would have read the book before now, but no. Ms. Lee really captures an era and it’s a powerful story. Our next book that we will start in several weeks is “Travelling Mercies” by Anne Lamott. It’s a spiritual biography of a young woman who made lots of bad choices and some very good choices also. One of her choices is to become a Christian. Lamont is funny and poignant and this is a good read. Let Mary Ann Patelidas or me know if you would like to join us in reading this book. We meet at 11:00 on Wednesdays.

Do you know that Trinity now has online giving? You can find the link on the website page at www.trinitymethodistasheville.com. We have 5 members now giving online. Join the fun and never worry about your checkbook again. If you need help we have some folks that can show you how to set up your giving.

Save The Date #1: On Friday evening July 3rd, our congregation will be hosting The Asheville Jazz Orchestra. This is the same band that does our Stan Kenton Christmas Concert. We are going to have an evening of All American Big Band Jazz Music to celebrate the 4th of July. The concert is free and we will take up a love offering. Half the offering will go to the band and half will go to the veterans’ ministries conducted by Asheville Buncombe Community Christian Ministries. The concert starts at 7; bring your friends.

Save the Date #2: On Sunday July 12 the Trinity Strings will conduct all of the music during the service and when the service is over we will have a barbeque lunch. We will start taking reservations next week and the desire of the church council is to keep the cost low.

Andrew has asked me to let you know that there is room for 5 more children /youth to go on the overnight zoo trip to the Asheboro Zoo on July 16 and 17. Talk to Andrew if you have an interest.

The Western North Carolina Conference will hold its annual conference at Lake Junaluska next week. It starts early on Wednesday morning and runs through Sunday morning. I am an usher this year so I will be at the lake a lot.

We will celebrate communion on Sunday morning and talk a little bit about what kind of ground our life of faith is planted in. The scripture lesson is Mark 4:2634 and I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Sincerely,

Rodney
