About Us

Who We Are

We are a welcoming community that finds comfort and joy in the teachings of Jesus Christ and through worship, helping and fellowship with others. Trinity United Methodist Church is home to multiple generations and perspectives in its membership. We are open to all people who want to worship with us, help uplift others, or simply belong to an accepting community.

Our History

A faith community has gathered on the site of Trinity United Methodist Church since 1847. The original congregation met in a one-room building called the Miller Meeting House, which welcomed circuit preachers of different denominations. Since then, our church has been called many names before finally becoming Trinity United Methodist Church.

Almost immediately after expanding their building in 1909, the congregation outgrew it. Our present church was then constructed in 1927. The construction costs along with the economic crisis of the Great Depression placed the church in substantial debt. Over the next decade, church members rallied to raise the funds to pay their debt. Women of the church organized suppers and sold chicken pies in downtown Asheville. In 1945, the debt was paid, and the church was formally dedicated.

What We Believe

The best way for you to learn what we believe is to join us for worship. From there, we’d love to have a cup of Deep Time coffee and talk more deeply about the kind of Christians we strive to become.

We affirm our belief through a blend of contemporary and traditional worship as expressed in the universally accepted Apostles’ Creed, which says:

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; the third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

We also embrace the teaching of our denomination founder, John Wesley, who believed that Christian faith involved thinking, loving and action. At Trinity, we call this a faith of the head, the heart and the hands: a faith of worship, learning and generosity.
