Trinity United Methodist Church

Get to know Trinity – Mark Locklear

Where did you grow up and how long have you been in Asheville?

I grew up in Southeastern NC between Pembroke and Maxton. My wife Erica and I met in 1998 in Chapel Hill. After marrying in 2000 we were out of the state (4 years in Utah + 4 years in Louisiana) for about 10 years before moving back in 2008.

What kind of work do you do?

I am a Web Developer with NC State.

What do you like to do in your free time?

How much time do you have? Here is a short list: gardening, building custom motorcycles, working on old VW Beetles, beer and cider making.

How long have you been a member at Trinity, and what do you like best about it?

Since about 2008. When we moved back to NC finding a church was at the top of my list. We were living in West Asheville at the time and we visited a few churches along Haywood Rd. Trinity was the 3rd church we visited and before the service was over I knew it was the church for me! My favorite thing about Trinity is the people. It truly does feel like my second family.

What is something interesting about yourself that others might no know?

I am a Lumbee Indian. Most people don’t know, but it is the largest tribe east of the Mississippi and also the largest tribe in the nation that does not yet have federal recognition.
