Phyllis June Pyatte Hutchins
(12 May 1937 – 10 Nov 2022)
Phyllis June Pyatte Hutchins, 85, died on Thursday, November 10, 2022. She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 54 years, Cecil, in 2012.
Phyllis had been a member of Acton United Methodist Church since 1962, where she had previously served as Sunday School Teacher, Financial Secretary, Church Secretary, and various other positions and committees. Her strong faith was a daily source of strength and guidance. A graduate of the Woman’s College Commercial Class of 1958 (now UNCG) she retired from UNC Asheville after twenty five years of service. She was a faithful volunteer with the Welcome Table at the Leicester Community Center and formerly with Land of Sky Regional Council.
She enjoyed many years of travel with her husband. The greatest joys of her life were her three children and nine grandchildren, rejoicing in their accomplishments and the privilege of watching them reach adulthood. Many years of family fun at the beach with the children, spouses and grandchildren provided special joys and memories. The annual holiday cookie making and the many Thanksgivings and Christmas Eves with Mimi were anticipated occasions. Many close and wonderful friends provided much fun and support, enriching her life immensely.
An avid reader, she was a frequent visitor to the Leicester library, always leaving with many books. She enjoyed walking, sketching, baking; but most important to her and her primary interest remained her family, treasuring the closeness and cherishing the love they all shared.
Survivors include her son Greg (Nancy); daughters, Leslee Sprague (Peter) and Andrea Hutchins Hunnicutt; adored grandchildren, Allison, Morgan (Robert), Nathan (Drew), Laura Elizabeth (Taylor), Jeff (Samantha), Natalie, Neal, Emma Grace and Emory; sister, Marlene Maney; and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to express special thanks to the staff of Mission Hospital and CarePartners Solace Center for their care.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday at Acton United Methodist Church, with Rev. Travis Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
