An eNote from Rodney
Dear Trinity Family,
Yesterday some of the trustees met with the contractor and his supervisors and we did our first walk through of the elevator project. Everything has gone well during the first phase. A space for a pump underneath the elevator has been dug, a new foundation poured and the edges of what will be the shaft have been cleared. Yesterday masons began laying the concrete block that will be the shaft of the new elevator. We have enjoyed working with the contractor and his team and everyone feels good as work progresses. The next big event will be going through the ceiling of the old lift and extending the shaft to the third floor. As we move about the building it will be helpful that we close doors whenever possible. This will help prevent the migration of construction dust. Thanks.
We are in the sixth Sunday of our Lenten sermon series based on the “I Am” sayings of Jesus. This week we will look at the 14th chapter of John where Jesus says to his disciples, “I am the way, the truth and the life, no one comes to the father except through me.” Is this a statement of exclusion or of Grace? Let’s talk on Sunday morning about how Jesus is the way to the mansion that he has prepared for his own. Our scripture will be John 14:17
Last night Cheryl and I went to the Last Supper Seder meal presented by the youth. It was wonderful and fun and a learning experience. Did you ever wonder where some of the different disciples would have reclined at the table? There is scripture that helps us understand that and gives us a more fleshed out picture of Jesus’ last night with his disciples. Andrew says that there are spaces open next Wednesday, April 1st for both the 5 and 6:30 seatings. He can also squeeze in two more people this Sunday, March 29 at 6. Give the office a call if you would like to come and speak with Lee or Andrew. 253-5471
Housekeeping notes: Our Easter morning Sunrise service will be held in the front yard of Tom and Mary Jo Harrison’s residence at One Glen Falls Road in North Asheville. Glen Falls Road is on the north end of Merrimon Avenue. The time is 7:20am and if you need to take the Church van it will leave Trinity at 7:00. We will worship on Easter Sunday morning at 11:00am. This is 15 minutes later than usual.
Next Thursday, Maundy Thursday, some of the youth and adults will help in leading us in a Tenebrae and communion service. This service is at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. This Sunday is Palm Sunday and we will remember how Jesus rode into Jerusalem with celebration and fanfare. Because we are doing the “I Am” sermon series we are not following the Lenten storyline as closely as we have done in years past. Though Palm Sunday can have a celebratory tone, let’s not forget that this celebration is followed by a week of suffering for Jesus.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday as we begin Holy Week together.
Sincerely,
Rodney
