Dear Trinity Congregation,
I’m going to start with a request. We should be in the sanctuary on Sunday morning but there is a bit of sanctuary cleaning to be done. There is a fine layer of dust on the pews and some of the hardware. This dust needs to be wiped off with a damp towel. A couple of our members made a dent in the work this week but If a few more folks came this could be knocked out in a couple of hours or less. Would you consider coming to the church tomorrow morning, (Saturday) and lending a hand. Time is 9:00 am.
Our parking lot is clear and the snow is past us for awhile so we will be in Sunday School and worship on Sunday. I do need to ask that if you missed giving your contributions last week because of the snow would you make them up this week. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.
Part of the lectionary reading for this week is First Corinthians 13. Many of you know this as the love chapter. Stanley Hauerwas likes to say that Christianity has become to sentimentalized. First Corinthians 13 is certainly one of those passages of scripture that can be tuned into a warm fuzzy. First Corinthians 13:1-13 is not only revelation of God’s character but also of ours. Would you read the passage in preparation for Sunday morning? Thanks.
We will have a new addition to our worship practice on Sunday. Carlos Kennedy, who is an excellent woodworker has built for us a votive candle stand out of cherry wood. As you come into the service or during the passing of the peace if you would like to light a candle as a prayer for someone or something please do so.
We will hold a worship service on Wednesday evening, February 10, at 5:45 pm. This service marks Ash Wednesday and will be the beginning of the Church season of Lent.
Take care and I will see you on Sunday.
Sincerely,
Rodney
