Rodney’s Weekly Enote

Friday May 1, 2015

An eNote from Rodney

Dear Trinity Church Family,

Some of you may receive the May copy of the Trinity Times by the time Sunday rolls around. The cover essay is by Trinity’s children and youth director Andrew Tripp. He talks about his experience with the 2015 Confirmation class and how rewarding and fun it was. On Sunday morning 9 young men and women will profess their belief in the Christian faith and formally join into the life of both the church universal and Trinity UMC. What a lovely day in the life of our church! Because of both Communion and the Confirmation service we will not have a Children’s sermon on Sunday. At the time of the children’s sermon our young children can go directly to Children’s Church.

After worship on Sunday we will have a covered dish lunch. The church will provide ham, drinks and rolls. You are invited to bring vegetables, salads, desserts and all the other culinary delights that make a covered-dish lunch special. After the meal there will be a concise and informative talk presented by the Finance committee. The committee will bring the congregation up to date on church finances, where we stand with the use of the J.D. Howell fund and what the economic future of Trinity looks like.

Jim and Dianne Thompson are also in town this weekend and will be worshiping with us. Jim and Dianne conduct a medical mission in Guatemala. They would like to say hello and talk during the Sunday School hour about how their mission work is going. Jim will meet with the Ownbey-Mann and Sprinkle-Bagwell classes in the Mann classroom. Dianne will be meeting with the Faith class in their room upstairs. Please know that you are invited to join either of these groups for the Thompson’s talk on Sunday morning during the Sunday School hour.

As we celebrate our new confirmands on Sunday I thought it would be appropriate in the sermon to think about how we are influenced and shaped by others as we grow up. My text will be from Hebrews 12:13 where the author talks about the “cloud of witnesses” who surround us.

Unconnected bits of info:
*    I’m driving the van this afternoon for an Asheville organization called Children First. I am taking a group of folks to visit children support organizations in town.
*    The Trustees will have their second walk through with the elevator contractor this afternoon. We are looking forward to hearing about their progress.
*    If you have food for the covered dish lunch when you arrive on Sunday please take it to the kitchen and place it on the center table. Thanks.

We are all looking forward to Sunday for worship and to celebrate our newest young members.

Sincerely,
Rodney
