An eNote from Rodney
It’s here! The vanity for the restroom downstairs that we have been waiting for is here. It has been bolted to the wall and right now Ron the plumber in hooking up water pipes. I don’t know if it will be ready for Sunday but the end of this project is in sight. The last step will be the city inspectors and with the quality of our craftsmen this should not be a problem.
The church season of Lent will soon be upon us. Lent is the 40 days before Easter. It is a time of reflection on our lives of faith as we watch Jesus approach and enter Jerusalem for the last time during his earthly life. We will mark the beginning of Lent on Ash Wednesday with a service of the imposition of ashes. That service will be on Wednesday February 18, at 5:30pm. In the gospels, Jesus declares about himself, “I am the bread of life, the true vine, the good shepherd,” and several other references. During the season of Lent Keith Turman and I will be working together on a sermon series based on the “I Am” sayings of Jesus. Keith and I are looking forward to this important time of the church year.
The theme of solitude and silence has been running through our sermons since the first of the year. Of course the most obvious thing Christians do in silence is pray. The lectionary gospel lesson this week describes Jesus leaving the disciples to pray so I will talk about biblical prayer on Sunday. The gospel lesson is Mark 1:35-39.
I think I will go downstairs and see how the plumber is doing and I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday.
Sincerely,
Rodney
