Rodney’s Weekly eNote

An eNote from Rodney

I hope that you are doing well and staying warm. This old church building is actually a
lovely place to be in the cold weather. There is something about the steam heat that is very
comforting. Another nice reason to be in the building these days is the live music. Nolan often
comes over in the afternoon to practice and his organ playing fills the hallways. I have been
writing notes to the guests who attended our Christmas Eve service. The attendance was 188
that night and the collection was four dollars short of one thousand dollars.

Last Sunday we looked at a very practical way to start the new year, especially for those
of us setting serious goals. We talked about writing down specific and achievable goals,
understanding “why” we want to achieve those goals and being clear about what our lives would
look like if we achieved those goals. This Sunday we are going to look at a slightly different
approach to starting off the new year. Kirk Byron Jones, who is a pastor, speaker and teaches
at Andover-Newton Theological School has a wonderful way of approaching each day being
filled with God’s spirit. He calls it B.R.E.W and equates it with his morning coffee. I have
always enjoyed my contact with Jones and want to share some of his thinking with you. (He also
correctly thinks Louis Armstrong is one of the most important musical forces ever.)

I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday.

Sincerely,

Rodney
