An eNote from Rodney
Dear Trinity Congregation,
Seasonal temperatures are with us as we get ready for the Stan Kenton Christmas concert tonight at 7. The band rehearsed in the sanctuary last night and has never sounded better. There is the addition of a female vocalist this year doing several numbers. Christmas hymns and carols arranged in big band style. Come, bring a friend and feel that dotted eighth-note swing.
Thanks to everyone who volunteered this week to help with the Christmas Dinner and Tom Drake’s visitation. Thanks to the Youth and Andrew for that wacky, amazing, funny and poignant multimedia Christmas presentation. Nothing better was presented in Asheville last weekend.
This Sunday will be the third Sunday in December and it will be Little Red Wagon Sunday. We are collecting paper products for Trinity Place Shelter for homeless youth. Here is what Trinity Place needs: Paper towels, toilet paper, full size shampoo and hair conditioner and liquid hand soap. Thank you for helping with this collection. Some of you brought your items last week and we thank you.
Thursday is Christmas Eve. We will worship with our Candlelight service at 5:30 pm. on Thursday. There will be child-care. This is a lovely service where we hear the Christmas story and sing those wonderful Christmas hymns. This service is also a good way to introduce someone to our congregation, so if you have a friend you think might like to come, do invite them.
God comes into the world as a child but he comes to do some serious adult work. On Sunday we will reflect on the idea that the child in the cradle is God’s painful and heartfelt sacrifice for us. I hope I can do this topic justice. The scripture lesson is Hebrews 10:4-10 and I will use Eugene Peterson’s The Message to read from.
Hey, it’s almost Christmas. See you on Sunday.
Sincerely,
Rodney
