An eNote from Rodney

Dear Trinity Congregation,

I am looking forward to worship on Sunday morning and then, following the service our congregational covered dish lunch in the fellowship hall. I’m going to bop over to Sam’s this morning and buy some hams and maybe some rolls. We will provide tea. After lunch the church council will hold a charge conference and set salaries and nominations for 2017. Then we will hear a report from The Church Council/Finance Committee on the state of our Finances and congregation. The Church Council is looking forward to this opportunity to be with you.

Thanks to all of you who came to the District meeting at Groce UMC last Sunday. Our congregation was well represented. One statement Rev. Chrisman made that really resonated with me and others was, “Methodism needs to stop being an institution and once again become a movement.” I think she means become a movement of people enlivened by God’s grace.

Last Sunday in worship Glenn May told us that the bell choir would like to buy another octave of bells. The choir has two octaves now and there is not a lot of music written for two octaves. This third octaves of bells cost four thousand dollars and we are 500 dollars short of the money needed to purchase the bells. If you would like to make a contribution to this fund, place it in an envelope and put it in the offering plate on Sunday morning. The bells are going to play for us on Sunday.

Save the Date: Sunday November 20, 2016, following worship. On the 20th of November we will hang the greens and prepare our sanctuary for Advent and Christmas. This is always a special time. Several of our members have volunteered to prepare a light lunch for us. Let’s grab a bite and hang some lights.

In the last few days members should have received a Pledge Form for 2017 in the mail. This allows you to make a financial commitment to our congregation in the next year. The Finance Committee is asking you to prayerfully consider a pledge for the coming year. We will be collecting those forms in worship on Sunday November 20th; it is our tradition at Trinity on the Sunday before Thanksgiving to bring to the altar our pledges and a canned food item during the singing of the first hymn. We do this rather than sending the red wagon around. You may also mail in your pledge.  If for any reason you did not receive a pledge form and would like one please speak to Lee Thomas or Rodney.

Today is Veterans Day, and yesterday, November 10, was the birthday of the Marine Corps. To all our veterans, thank you.

I’m thinking that I shouldn’t say enjoy this stunning day because what we could use is some awful rainy weather. So while you enjoy this stunning day keep those firefighters in you prayers. I heard this morning that crews are coming in from all over the country to battle our local forest fires.

I will see you on Sunday.

Sincerely,

Rodney
