Dear Trinity Congregation,
 
Wednesday March 1 will be Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. We will celebrate by having a service for the imposition of Ashes. The service will begin at 7:00 on Wednesday evening in the sanctuary and last about 20 minutes.
 
Family Day at Tube World​ ​ On this Sunday the Youth are headed to Tube World in Maggie Valley for our annual snow-tubing day. We are encouraging families (of any age, though there are minimum height requirements) to come along, making it a church-wide family outing. Tube World runs two-hour sessions; we’ll aim for the 2:00 p.m. session. We’ll meet after church for lunch and plan to be back to the church around 4:30 p.m. Youth have dibs on the van so families are encouraged to convoy with us or meet us there a little before 2:00 p.m. See Andrew for more details. Advance tickets are available on their website, but aren’t usually necessary.
 
Nolan is having an organ recital tomorrow, Saturday February 25, at St. James Episcopal church in Hendersonville. He will be playing a collection of classical pieces and the admission is $10.00. St. James is at 766 North Main Street in Hendersonville.
 
As you know, demographics are changing greatly in the United States and this change may have consequences for the church. Robert Jones is a writer and commentator for mainstream news outlets and has written a book titled “The End of White Christian America.” Mr. Jones is going to be at Covenant Community UMC on Sunday afternoon March 12 from 3 to 5pm. This event is being sponsored by the Blue Ridge District and the Water Rock Institute. Admission is $10.00. Because I have an interest in the intersection of church and culture I am planning to attend. If you would like to attend as well, please speak to me.
 
In the sermon on Sunday we will continue to look at the high calling that is presented by Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount. We’ll look again at Dallas Willard’s belief that when Jesus gave us these instructions in the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus believed we can do them. There is a lot of information, a lot of books (see above) about what the church can do to revitalize itself. Dallas Willard believes the place to start is with the renovation of our human hearts. I want us to explore and think about that. I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
