An eNote from Rodney
Dear Trinity Congregation,
I will be at Lake Junaluska for Annual Conference at eight this morning so this is going to be quick. Yesterday morning began with worship; we heard reports about General Conference in Portland and a wonderful report from The Children’s Home in Winston-Salem. The Children’s Home has a new director and everyone is excited about the new vision and energy he is bringing to the Home. We also met all the (mostly) young pastors that will be ordained on Saturday night. That is always special.
This summer Trinity is supporting Buncombe County’s Summer Food Distribution; we are serving the children in the Brownwood community near Emma Elementary school. We meet each Wednesday and Friday at 10:30 and return around 12:15. This ministry will continue until August 19th. There is a trained supervisor on site every day but we need additional volunteers. Will you help? We especially need help on June 24, 29, July 1, 6, 13, 27 and 29. Please contact Andrew or Lee in the church office to be a part of this important community service project. The office number is 253-5471.
Little Red Wagon. This is the third Sunday of the month and the Little Red Wagon will be making its rounds. On Sunday we will collect paper products for Trinity Place Shelter for Homeless Youth. Paper towels, bath tissue and Kleenex are always needed. The nice thing about this collection is that you probably already have a contribution in your closet. Let director Amy Hobson know we love her with a contribution.
We had a call this week with the offer of a hospital bed, one that goes up and down. If you need a hospital bed or know someone who does, please let Rodney know.
I learned something at Annual Conference yesterday that is worth remembering and celebrating. 2016 is the 60th anniversary of the ordaining of the first woman to be an Elder/Pastor in the Methodist Church.
In the past seven or eight years I have rediscovered a fondness for Annual Conference, so I’m off to the lake and Stuart auditorium. Glenn Parham is our Lay representative, and he and Linda will be there as well. Annual Conference will run through Sunday morning though I will be at Trinity for worship on Sunday morning. I look forward to seeing you then.
Sincerely,
Rodney
