An eNote from Rodney

Dear Trinity Congregation,

We have several Christmas events to happen as Advent leads us into Christmas.  The first is tonight when The Asheville Jazz Orchestra will perform A Stan Kenton Christmas.  The Band will play Stan Kenton’s big band arrangements of traditional Christmas hymn and other favorites.  The concert is free and a love offering will be taken. Half the offering will go to the Asheville Jazz Society and half will go to our “Bless the School” fund for the local elementary schools. The concert starts at 7.

I heard a lot of good conversation about our guest preachers last Sunday from everyone involved.  Thank you for giving our guest preachers a warm welcome.  The first performance of “Three Spirits, A Multimedia Performance of Dicken’s A Christmas Carol” was moving and around 250 folks came.  The second performance is this Sunday, Dec. 21, at 7:00pm at the Orange Peel.  Doors open at 6:30 and I should have tickets on hand on Sunday morning.  Price is $8 for adults and $2 for children under 12.

On Wednesday evening the 24th of December we will celebrate Christmas Eve.  The time of the service is 5:30.  We will hear the Christmas story, sing beautiful hymns and take up a collection for vulnerable children in Asheville and Africa.   As you know we have invited West Asheville to our beautiful church to worship with us.  If it looks like we will have more visitors than seats downstairs will you consider sitting in the balcony and making room for our guest? We will also be using pew attendance pads that evening so that we can write our guest a note and thank them for worshiping with us.  We will start using the pew pads this Sunday.

I will be preaching on the renewed Ebenezer Scrooge this Sunday.  Scrooge has decided that he wants his life to be for something other than gain and he is ready to make his move.  I have loved this series and I hope you have also.  As we go into the last few days of Advent may we learn how to keep Christmas well in our hearts.

I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday.
