An eNote from Rodney
A note from the Youth: Andrew, the youth and their parents thank all of you for coming to the youth soup lunch last Sunday after worship. There was good attendance for the lunch and the youth made a little over a thousand dollars. That money will go toward their Confirmation and Mission trips this spring and summer. Thanks to all the cooks who made the delicious soups. The boys in the building (read church staff) have made a couple of lunches this week out of the leftover soups. Wonderful.
Here’s another note from Andrew. It’s not exactly Valentine’s Day, but it’s close. If you’re a parent looking for a night out in early-mid February, mark your calendars for Saturday, February 11th from 6:00-9:30. Trinity is hosting Heart of the Cross’s “Parents’ Night Out” where you can drop your kids off for the low price of $25 (dinner included!). The money will go to the Dominican Republic Mission Trip. This evening is being put on in partnership with Heart of the Cross Ministries and the World Changer Club at Asheville High School. This is open to children age 4 through 5th grade. Contact Andrew for more information or to sign your child(ren) up.
A note about our Wednesday night suppers. During Lent the suppers will start at 5:30 pm in order to make room for the Bible study. The Disciple Bible study will run from 6 to 7 and then choir will rehearse. The 5:30 start time will begin on Wednesday February 15.
Mark your calendar. Trinity is part of an informal network of churches called the Asheville Missional Network. It is made up of the churches in the metro Asheville area. This year these churches are going to hold a joint Good Friday service at Groce United Methodist Church. The date is Friday April 14th and the time is 6:00pm.
The Old Testament reading for this Sunday is Deuteronomy 30:15 -20. The passage is God asking the people of Israel to be faithful to his law. I’m going to try and talk about the function of law as a gift from God that keeps us from wondering off the back porch. I hope we can see God’s law as an expression of his love for us.
PSA: I am hearing about a whole new series of phone scams going around. One is where the caller tries to get you to say “yes”. They record that yes and use it to access other files that belong to you. Words of wisdom from those who are wiser than me…don’t do any business on the phone. Don’t give any money over the phone. Just hang up. Take care and I will see you on Sunday.
Sincerely,
Rodney
