An eNote from Rodney
Dear Trinity Congregation,
Today we keep the family of Alberta Starnes in our prayers as they begin to return to their different residences across the country. Thanks go to Kay Cooke who prepared lunch for Alberta’s family and thank you to those who came to her service and offered your support yesterday.
Red Wagon Sunday For the month of June, we will collect items for Hall Fletcher Elementary School snacks: canned fruits, cereals, juices, crackers of any kind, granola, fruit, cereal bars, fruit cups, snack packs, any non-perishable foods. Remember, you can bring the items on any Sunday or drop them off during the regular church office hours in the week. However on the third Sunday (Red Wagon Sunday), please keep them with you at your pew and place them in the wagon when the children come around during the opening hymn.
In his book on the Trinity, Jason Byassee likes to hold two points in tension. The first: If you can understand it, it’s not God. The second: the answer is always Jesus. God himself is so holy and other that we cannot comprehend him but we can see what we need to see of him in Jesus. The Holy Spirit speaks to our hearts concerning the love the Father and Son have for the world they have made. This Sunday we will continue to look at the Trinity, the one whose name we have taken as our own. Last Sunday we looked at the Holy Spirit and this Sunday we will talk about the Son.
All American Big Band Jazz Concert. This is the third year the Asheville Jazz Orchestra will come to Trinity and do big band arrangements of patriotic songs and also play music from the WWII era. It will be a benefit concert and proceeds will be split between the band and the Veterans ministry conducted by ABCCM. We need your help this year. We need you to tell your friends about the concert and invite them to come. The concert is in our sanctuary on Sunday afternoon, July 2 and the time is 3:00 pm.
This past week our Staff Parish Relations Committee met with our new pastors, the Reverend Nancy Walton and the Reverend Darryl Dayson. I ask you to keep our new pastors and our congregation in your prayers as we enter this exciting new chapter of life together in Jesus on Haywood Road. (I like that last phrase.) Also, Andrea Davis has been doing wonderful work preparing the parsonage for the Dayson family’s arrival. Thank you as well to the United Methodist Men and the youth for the parsonage yard work they did last Saturday.
I look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
Sincerely,
Rodney
